TL;DR

  • You control what you share. In the extension, you can choose what files to share. .gitignore files are never sent.
  • VODs off (default): Your code/IDE data is kept only while you’re live, then deleted when you stop.
  • VODs on: We keep your code until you delete the VOD or your account. You still own your code, but you grant us a license to use VODs to improve the platform (no model-training language).
  • We keep operational logs/metrics/analytics indefinitely.

1) Scope

This Policy covers the website, viewer experiences, partner tools, and the Parakeet.tv extension for VS Code–compatible IDEs.

2) Data We Collect

a) You provide

  • Account info via GitHub (ID, username, display name, avatar, public email if available).
  • Profile and channel details.
  • Stream titles/metadata, chat, and any content you upload.

b) From the Extension (depending on your settings)

  • Code deltas and related IDE data (e.g., cursor positions, selections, editor state).
  • Optional terminal output and other IDE panes, if/when you choose to share them.
  • Privacy guard: files ignored by .gitignore are never transmitted.

c) Usage & device data

  • Event logs, IP address, timestamps, session/device info, diagnostics, crash reports, performance data, and interaction metrics.
  • Cookies and similar technologies for sign-in (Clerk) and analytics (PostHog).

d) Payments

Subscription and payout information is processed by Stripe. We receive limited records (e.g., transaction IDs, amounts, status) but not full card numbers.

3) How We Use Data

  • Provide and operate the Services (stream transport, video-like code rendering, chat, moderation).
  • Improve the platform: quality, performance, safety, analytics, and feature development (including search, discovery, recommendations, anti-abuse).
  • Communicate with you (support, updates, security alerts).
  • Prevent fraud, abuse, and misuse; enforce our Terms.

VOD License (Improvement Use)

If you enable VODs, you grant Parakeet.tv a license to use your VOD content to operate, maintain, and improve the platform. You retain ownership of your code/content. You can revoke this license by deleting the VOD (or your account), after which we will cease using that content for improvement.

4) When We Share Data

  • Vendors/Processors: We use third parties to help run Parakeet.tv, including Stripe (payments), Clerk (auth cookies), PostHog (analytics), Cloudflare (network/performance/CDN), hosting providers, and moderation/monitoring tools.
  • Compliance & safety: If reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users or our Services, or respond to legal requests.
  • Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale (we’ll take reasonable steps to notify you).

5) Data Retention

  • Live streams with VODs OFF (default): Code and related IDE data are ephemeral—stored only during the live session and deleted when the stream stops.
  • With VODs ON: Your code/content are retained until you delete the VOD or delete your account.
  • Operational logs/metrics/analytics: retained indefinitely (e.g., IP, timestamps, diagnostics, usage events).
  • Account data: retained while your account is active; certain records (e.g., fraud prevention, financial records) may persist as required for operations or law.
  • Deleted VODs: purged immediately upon deletion.

6) Security

We employ technical and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the data (segmentation, access controls, encryption in transit, monitoring). No system is perfectly secure. Report security issues to security@parakeet.tv.

7) International Data Transfers

Data may be processed in the United States and other countries where we or our vendors operate. We take steps designed to protect your information in accordance with this Policy.

8) Your Choices

  • Streaming scope: Choose what to share in the extension.
  • VOD control: Keep VODs off (default) for ephemeral streaming; if on, you can delete VODs at any time.
  • Account deletion: Contact support@parakeet.tv or use available settings to delete your account.
  • Analytics/cookies: Standard browser controls apply.

9) Children

Parakeet.tv is for users 13+. If we learn we collected data from someone under 13, we’ll take steps to delete it.

10) Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy; we’ll post the new version and update the date above. Material changes will be reasonably notified.
